Disappointing Finish at SOBO
Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 09:23PM
Philip started second behind C.E. Falk (#40) for the 150 Lap feature at South Boston on Saturday, March 20th. He struggled early to maintain the second spot as he dropped back to 3rd on lap 22 behind Justin Johnson (#44). On lap 26 he fell back to fourth behind the 89 of David Latour. Struggling with the car being loose, Phil was able to hold onto the fourth spot. Trouble came with a restart on lap 96 when the lap car of Natalie Sather (#94) decided to attempt to block Phil from passing. This caused damage to Phil's nose.
Hope came with a caution on lap 126 when C.E. Falk and Justin Johnson made contact each other. With David Latour out of the race, this left Philip in the number one spot. Around lap 146 however, Phil reported trouble with the right front and after the restart for a green-white-checker, he fell back to eighth. Turns out he had a flat right-front tire. Although disappointing, Phil had this to say after the race, "All things work together for good for those who love God and are called by His purpose. The last time I started a year like this we won the National Championship in 2008."
Thanks to all the fans who came out to support Philip! Hope to see you all at a future race.
